Janet brings over 30 years of dedicated experience to her clinical practice, much of which was spent at Pathways Hospice and the Pathways Grief & Loss Counseling Program in Fort Collins, Colorado. Janet specializes in grief counseling and has spent the majority of her career supporting individuals, families, and communities impacted by death, regardless of cause. Her work includes compassionate care for children, teens, and adults experiencing grief, as well as those living with long-term or serious illness and the family members and caregivers who support them. She has developed particular expertise in working with children and youth affected by loss, offering individual, family, and group counseling, along with extensive outreach and education throughout Northern Colorado, including within school systems. Janet’s clinical background also includes a strong foundation in medical social work, with experience in palliative and hospice care across all age groups. She is a seasoned educator and presenter on topics such as compassion fatigue, resilience-building, and professional self-care, and continues to support fellow clinicians and caregivers through these lenses. Her therapeutic approach is client-centered and strengths-based. She integrates specialized training in Sand Tray Therapy for both children and adults and has served as a supervisor and mentor to professional colleagues and graduate students throughout her career. I’m a career-change social worker and proud graduate of the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. My passion lies in supporting individuals of all ages who are struggling—or simply seeking someone who will truly listen and understand. My work is deeply informed by both clinical training and personal experience, including my time as an Army veteran and as a mother to a childhood cancer survivor. These life experiences allow me to bring a unique level of empathy and insight to the therapeutic space. I specialize in supporting those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, medical trauma, serious illness, grief, and depression. I’ve received specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which I offer to clients of all ages to help release trauma stored in the nervous system. My work with children is grounded in play-based therapy, allowing young clients to express themselves through play, sand tray, art—and in some cases—aquatic therapy. I believe that children are not “little adults,” especially in medical environments, and they deserve therapeutic spaces that honor their unique developmental needs. My approach is to create a safe, fun, and affirming environment where children can be themselves while processing difficult experiences in ways that feel natural and supported. After 34 wonderful years with Poudre School District—first as a special education teacher and later as a school counselor—I’ve embarked on a new chapter in my professional journey. I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined The Creative Healing Center in Loveland, where I now offer private mental health counseling as a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC). My passion for supporting children and families has guided this transition. I provide counseling services to children, teens, and adults using a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to each individual’s needs. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker because I am passionate about helping individuals recover from religious trauma, relationship wounds, and patterns of people- pleasing and perfectionism. Through 10 years of bringing this passion to therapy, I have witnessed my clients gain radical self-compassion and build a strong, trusting relationship with themselves. From this deeply supportive space, they have learned to set and keep boundaries for self-care, find a clear understanding of their identity, and uncovered a deep and abiding ability to nurture and care for their pain and trauma. This has resulted in my clients gently leading themselves into the life they’ve been yearning for. I deeply value a strong, trusting, and safe therapeutic relationship and the co-creation of this container for the work we do together. I value and trust your internal healing wisdom, and am committed to exploring and developing this together in safety. My approach is rooted in curiosity, compassion, trust, and evidence-based practices, and is trauma-informed. I draw on modalities such as NARM (Neuro-Affective Relational Model), DBT, ACT, IFS, mindfulness meditation, and self-compassion work to support your process of healing and transformation. I also specialize in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) as an adjunctive healing tool for those who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy. KAP, used within a trauma- informed and integrative context, can help open pathways toward insight, healing, and clarity.

My path to counseling has been unconventional. I began my career as a neuroscience researcher, studying emotional regulation in the brain. I was fascinated by how our nervous systems work, but over time I realized understanding the science of the brain wasn't the same as understanding people living with that brain. I found myself drawn to sitting with people in their struggles and helping them heal. This realization led me to pursue my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, where I discovered I could bring together my scientific understanding with the relational, compassionate work I am passionate about. I bring a holistic approach to therapy, drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic techniques, and nervous system regulation. Understanding how trauma affects both brain and body informs my work, and I help clients find pathways to healing that honor the mind-body connection. At the heart of my practice, I'm committed to creating a safe, collaborative space where all parts of you are welcome - where you can explore your challenges, reconnect with your own wisdom, and move toward lasting change.
